Predicate
The part of a sentence that tells us what the subject does is called the
predicate. The predicate generally follows the subject.
Students should attend their classes seriously.

Read the table given below to understand the subject and the predicate.
Subject Predicate
1. The farmer is ploughing his field.
2. The girl brushed her hair with a hair brush.
3. The sky is covered with white clouds.
Type of Sentences
There are four types of sentences.
Declarative Sentence
A sentence that states or declares something is called a declarative or a assertive
sentence.
1. The earth moves round the sun.
2. I study in class 4.
Interrogative Sentence
A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.
We use helping verbs such as do and does to make questions.
Did you brake my slate?

‘YES/NO’ type of questions.
Some questions need yes/no answer. They are called
yes/no questions. To make such a question, we bring
the helping verb before the subject.
When helping verb is not given, we use helping verbs
— do, does, did — to make questions (and negatives).
