          The past continuous tense is used to show the continuity of actions at some time in

          the past.

          Read the following sentences.

            1.  I was singing a song.                            2.  You were teaching your cousin.

          In the above sentences, was singing and were teaching are in the past continuous

          tense.

          We use the root form of a verb + -ing with past continuous tenses.


          Observe the formation of sentences in the past continuous tense.

                          subject + was/were + root form of a verb + -ing + ...

                           She      +     was      +  read+ing           +    a book.
