8 Playing With Construction
CHAPTER OUTLINES
● Construction of a circle when its radius is known ● Exploration in Rectangles
● Construction of wavy wave ● Construction of Rectangle by using two or more identical squares
● Construction of Eyes ● Construction of square with a hole
● Squares and Rectangles ● Construction of Rectangle having diagonals divides opposite angles
● Construction of Square into 60° and 30°
● Construction of Rectangle ● Point Equidistant from two given points
RECALL
● The distance around a circle is called its circumference.
● If P and Q are two points on a circle, then the line segment PQ is called a chord of the circle.
● Half of the circle is called a semi-circle.
● Diameter of circle = 2 × radius of circle.
● A line has infinite length.
● A line has segment has a starting point and an end point.
● A diameter is the largest chord of the circle.
● A rough diagram can be useful in planning how to construct a given figure.
Introduction
Everything we see around us has a shape. Even the book you are reading has a shape. We have already learned
about some simple shapes and how to draw them. In this chapter, we will learn about some basic constructions
like drawing circles, squares, rectangles and some special figures. For these we will use various instruments like
ruler, compass, protractor, divider and set squares available in our geometry box. Our geometry box contains the
following tools, which we use:
