Multiplication of 2-digit Number by 2-digit Number

Let us learn multiplication of 2- digit number by 2-digit number through examples.

              Let’s Attempt

        Example 1: Multiply 32 by 21.

Solution: Arrange the numbers as per their place values and follow these steps:

                          Step 1: Multiply 32 by 1.
                                     32 × 1 = 32 H T O
                                                                                                3
                                                                                                    2
Write 32 in the first row.
                                                                                           × 2 1 20 + 1
                          Step 2: Multiply 32 by 20. 3 2 32 × 1

                                       32 × 20 = (32 × 2) × 10 = 64 × 10 = 640 + 6 4 0 32 × 20
                                     Write 640 in second row. 6 7 2

Step 3: Add the two numbers in both the rows.

                                     32 + 640 = 672

                                     Thus, 32 × 21 = 672

        Example 2: Multiply 63 by 45.

Solution: Arrange the numbers as per their place values and follow these steps:

                          Step 1: Multiply 63 by 5. Th H T O

                                     63 × 5 = 63 × 5 = 315 6 3

                                     Write 315 in the first row. × 4 5 40 + 5

                                                                                           3 1 5 63 × 5
                          Step 2: Multiply 63 by 40.
                                     63 × 40 = 2520 + 2 5 2 0 63 × 40

                                     Write 2520 in the second row. 2 8 3 5

Step 3: Add the two numbers in both the rows.

                                     315 + 2520 = 2835
                                     Thus, 63 × 45 = 2835
