Data Handling 201
Solution: (i) The given bar graph shows the number of cars produced by an automobile company in a year.
(ii) 7 months (v) 80 + 120 + 100 + 140 + 180 + 200 + 160 = 980 cars
(iii) April Total number of cars 980
(iv) September (vi) Average = Number of months = 7 = 140 cars
Example 2: Given alongside is a graph showing the
production of rice during five consecutive
years (Fig.). Read the bar graph carefully and
answer the questions given below:
(i) What information is given by the bar graph?
(ii) What was the crop production of rice in
2016–2017?
(iii) What was the increase in crop production
in 2016–2017 over 2015–2016?
(iv) In which year there was the maximum
production of rice?
(v) In which year there was the minimum
production of rice?
(vi) What was the difference between the
maximum and minimum production of Production of rice during five consecutive years
rice?
Solution: (i) The given bar graph shows the production of rice during five consecutive years from
2014–2015 to 2018–2019.
(ii) 35 lakh tonnes (iii) (35–25) lakh tonnes = 10 lakh tonnes (iv) 2017–2018
(v) 2014–2015 (vi) (50–15) lakh tonnes = 35 lakh tonnes
Example 3: The data given below shows the number of students of Delhi who went abroad during some years.
Years 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019
No. of
students
who went 1200 1600 800 2000 1800
abroad
Draw a bar graph to represent the above data.
Solution: (i) On a graph paper draw OX and OY.
(ii) Along X-axis mark years at equal gaps
and along Y-axis mark number of
students.
(iii) Choose a scale: On Y-axis, 10 small
divisions = 200 students
(iv) Draw bars of equal widths corresponding
to the number of students who went
abroad in years 2015 to 2019 as shown
in the Fig.
