Example 1: Ruhi bought the following items:
A pen for ` 27.35, a notebook for ` 38.85, a pencil for ` 5.50 and a colour box for
` 57.35. Find the amount to be paid by her to the shopkeeper.
Solution: Cost of pen = ` 27.35 2 2 1
Cost of notebook = ` 38.85 ` 2 7 . 3 5
Cost of pencil = ` 5.50 ` 3 8 . 8 5
` 5 . 5 0
Cost of colour box = ` 57.35 + ` 5 7 . 3 5
Total amount = ` 129.05 ` 1 2 9 . 0 5
Hence, the total amount to be paid by Ruhi is ` 129.05.
Example 2: If the cost of 1 metre of ribbon is ` 15.20, find the cost of 12 metres of ribbon.
Solution: Cost of 1 metre of ribbon = ` 15.20 ` 1 5 . 2 0
× 1 2
Cost of 12 metres of ribbon = ` 15.20 × 12
` 3 0 . 4 0
= ` 182.40 + ` 1 5 2 . 0 0
Hence, the cost of 12 m of ribbon is ` 182.40 ` 1 8 2 . 4 0
Example 3: If a worker earns ` 2572.50 in a week, find his earning per day.
Solution: Amount earned in a week = ` 2572.50 3 6 7 .5 0
Amount earned in a day = ` 2572.50 ÷ 7 7 2 5 7 2 .5 0
= ` 367.50 – 2 1
4 7
Hence, the worker earns ` 367.50 in a day. – 4 2
