Adding and Subtracting Capacities

To add and subtract different capacities, we write them in column then

do the addition or subtraction.

Example 1: Add 38 L and 27 L. Example 2: Subtract 65 mL from

92 mL.

Solution: Solution:
1 8 12
3 8 L 9 2 mL

+ 2 7 L – 6 5 mL

6 5 L 2 7 mL

Thus, 38 L + 27 L Thus, 92 mL – 65 mL
= 65 L = 27 mL

Add the following.

73 L 37 mL 358 L 279 mL

+ 27 L + 45 mL + 274 L + 528 mL

Subtract the following.

88 L 94 mL 920 mL 754 L

– 26 L – 22 mL – 352 mL – 105 L
