P. 155
Measurement 153
Write the unit to weigh the given objects. One has been done for you.
g
Challenge
The following pictures show some of the commonly used weights.
50 g 100 g 200 g 500 g 1 kg 2 kg 5 kg 10 kg
Which weights will be used to form the following weights.
(i) 15 kg = _____ kg + _____ kg (ii) 7 kg = _____ kg + _____ kg
(iii) 13 kg = _____ kg + _____ kg + _____ kg (iv) 3 kg = _____ kg + _____ kg
Adding and Subtracting Weights
To add and subtract different weights, we write weight in columns and
then do the addition or subtraction.
Example 1: Add 235 g and 148 g. Example 2: Subtract 15 kg from 33 kg.
Solution: 1 Solution: 2 13
2 3 5 g 3 3 kg
+ 1 4 8 g – 1 5 kg
3 8 3 g 1 8 kg
Thus, 235 g + 148 g Thus, 33 kg – 15 kg
= 383 g = 18 kg
