Noun
A noun is a word used to name a person, place, animal or a thing and also something which can only be thought
of, but cannot be seen.
For example:
u Netaji was a great Indian leader. u The Earth revolves around the Sun.
u Allahabad is also known as Prayagraj. u He loves his freedom.
Pronoun
A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun. There are different kinds of pronouns. Just like nouns, pronouns
also have number and gender.
For example:
u I met Mother Teresa when she visited our school.
u Geeta, I had left my books here. Have you seen them?
u Prakash is an excellent athlete. He won the all-rounder trophy.
u This is a unique stone. We brought it all the way from China.
Verb
A verb is a word that expresses an action (walk, eat, sleep) or a state of being (is, am, are, was, were). It is the
most important part of speech as there can be no sentence without a verb.
For example:
u The farmer plucked the apples and placed them in a cart.
u Alaska is a cold country.
u When are you at home today?
u It was raining all night.

Adverb
An adverb is a word that adds something to the meaning of a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
For example:
u She arranged the flowers quickly. u They sang the song extremely well.
u He painted the wall carefully. u Laboriously, he climbed up the mountain.
Adjective
An adjective is a word that describes a noun. There are different types of adjectives that tell us more about
nouns.
For example:
u The kingfisher is a colourful bird. u This is an old fort.
u I have a warm coat. u Please show me the correct method to do it.
