Pre-Processing
• Problem Solving • Stepwise Thinking
• Sequence of Steps
• Decision Making and Repetition of Steps
In our everyday lives, we come across many situations. Some of these situations
involve problems that need to be solved. Examples of such problems are getting
ready for school, baking a cake, making a phone call to a friend, calculating cost of
whitewashing a house, calculating area of a rectangle, etc.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Some of the above problems can involve mathematical calculations, while others
involve small tasks that need to be done to solve the problem. The process of devising
a solution to a problem is called Problem Solving.
Problem Solving involves reasoning and logical thinking. Logical thinking is the ability
to understand a given problem and develop a series of steps to solve it. Reasoning is
the ability to analyse and choose the best solution among several possible solutions.
There are several steps involved in problem solving. These are:
1. Identify the problem: This step involves understanding the problem clearly
and collecting all required information about
it. Identify

2. Devising a solution: This step involves problem
preparing a series of steps to solve the problem.
All possible solutions are pursued and written
