Telephone Line or Cable Connection

          A telephone line or a cable connection is required to provide a connection medium
          to the Internet. The transfer of information takes place through the telephone line

          or the cable.

          TYPES OF INTERNET CONNECTIONS

          Internet connections can be of different types, depending on the type of connection
          and  speed  of  the  network.  Some  common  types  of
          Internet connections are:

            1.  Dial-up Connection

                  A Dial-up connection uses a standard telephone
                  line and a modem to connect to the Internet. You
                  need to enter your username and password each
                  time you need to connect to the Internet.

            2.  Broadband Connection

                  A  Broadband  connection  is  a  high-speed
                  Internet  connection  through  a  device  called
                  broadband modem. You do not need to enter

                  the  username  and  password  each  time  you
                  connect to the Internet.

            3.  Portable Internet Connection
                  A Portable Internet connection provides access to Internet

                  through  satellite  anywhere  in  the  world.  A  portable
                  connection device, called data card or dongle, is attached
                  to the  computer  that receives  signals directly  from a
                  satellite.


          TERMS RELATED TO INTERNET

          Let us understand the various terms used in the context of the Internet.

            1.  Web page
                  Information  on  the  Internet  is  stored

                  in the form of files called Web pages.
                  A  web  page  can  contain  information
                  in the form of text, images, audio, and
                  video.
