Pre-Processing
Pre-Processing
• Classification of Computers
– Microcomputers – Minicomputers
– Mainframe Computers – Supercomputers
– Wearable Computers – Embedded Computers
Computers have become an important part of our lives. They are used in all spheres of
human activity, such as education, entertainment, medicine, transportation, publishing,
business, and defence. Computers are characterised by their high speed, accuracy,
diligence, versatility, multitasking abilities, and large storage capacity.
CLASSIFICATION OF COMPUTERS
Computers are classified into different types based on several factors, such as size,
processing power, number of users, and cost.
Microcomputers
Microcomputers are the smallest general-purpose computers, usually with a single
CPU chip. Microcomputers are also called Personal Computers (PCs) as they are used
by one person at a time. They are affordable, and have enough processing power to
perform most common computer tasks.
• Desktop Computers • Mobile Computers
Desktop Computers
Desktop computers are computers that are placed on a desk
or table. A desktop computer consists of monitor, keyboard,
mouse, and system unit containing the CPU, memory chips,
hard disk, etc. They are not easy to carry from one place to
another due to their large size and heavy weight.
Mobile Computers Desktop computer
Mobile computers are portable computers that can be carried easily from one place
to another. Laptops, tablet computers, and smartphones are examples of mobile
computers.
