                                           Use Data Entry Tools: Keyboard and Mouse


            Today, we are living in the age of digital technology where electronic gadgets like computers, laptops, mobile
            phones, etc. have become the part of our day to day life. We use these devices to do almost every type of job
            ranging from documentation to sending e-mails, messages and maintaining all type of records electronically.
            To work with these devices, we input our data or commands with the help of a popular input device called
            keyboard. This device has many keys or buttons on it with different characters, numbers and special symbols
            printed on them. We press these keys to input the specifi c characters printed on them. To get our work done
            quickly by the computer, we need to press these keys quickly and accurately. The process of inputing or writing
            text by pressing the keys on the keyboard is called typing. So, we can say that typing plays a very vital role in
            the effi cient use of computer system.
            In this session, we will learn the skills of typing quickly and accurately. But before that, let us take a quick look
            at our keyboard.

            Functioning of Keyboard
            Keyboard is one of the popular input device which allows us to enter our data and instructions in the computer
            using text mode. Nowadays, different varieties of keyboards are available, but the most popular one is the
            standard keyboard called QWERTY keyboard. It denotes the standard layout of keys on the keyboard having
            Q, W, E, R, T and Y as the top line of characters from the left.















            The various set of keys available on the QWERTY keyboard are:
              v Alphabet keys (A-Z)

              v Number keys (0-9)
              v Punctuation keys (., ;, :, etc.)
              v Special keys (Backspace, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, etc.)

            Alphabet Keys
            The Alphabet keys are used to type letters, words and sentences. There are twenty-six alphabet keys on the
            keyboard.
