Knowledge of Various Methods of Communication
Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages through different means. More simply,
communication is the creation and exchange of meaningful words that convey the thoughts of one person to the
other. All creatures on the Earth have developed means in order to convey their emotions and thoughts to one
another. However, it is the ability of humans to use words and language to transfer specific meanings that sets
them apart from the other creatures.
So we can say that communication is the act of transferring information between two individuals or within a
group to reach a common understanding. Communication allows us to express our needs, wants, and other
feelings effectively.
Communication skills are needed to speak and write properly and clearly. Being able to communicate effectively
is perhaps the most important of all life skills. It enables us to pass information to other people, and to understand
what is said to us.
Methods of Communication
Communication can be carried out by various means. Broadly, we can categorise them in three methods of
communication. They are:
v Verbal communication in which we use words either orally through spoken communication or in written
form through printed or digital media like books, magazines, e-mails, etc.
v Non-verbal communication in which we use body language, gestures, and the tone and pitch of voice.
v Visual communication includes the use of logos, maps, charts, or graphs as means of communication.
Let’s study about these three methods of communication in detail.
Verbal Communication
Verbal Communication is a type of communication Listening Listening
wherein the message is transmitted through the Language
words. Language plays a very important role in Competence Vocabulary
this type of communication.
The success of verbal communication depends
not only on the speaking ability of an individual Listening Verbal Listening
but also on the listening skills. How effectively an Communication

the effectiveness of the communication. The Domain General
verbal communication is applicable in both the Knowledge Awareness
formal and informal kinds of situations. Verbal
