default, the background of the table of contents is shaded gray. Deselect this option to select white colour for the
background. You can also add a graphic to the background of the table of contents. Click the Bitmap button. The
Background tab displays the graphics options. Select the Bitmap that you want to set as a background.

Maintaining a Table of Contents
A table of ciontents can be mainatained using the following ways:
v Edit an existing table of contents.
v Update a table of contents when changes are made to the document.

v Delete a table of contents.

Editing a Table of Contents
To edit an existing table of contents:
Step 1: Right-click anywhere in the table of contents.

Step 2: From the context menu, choose Edit Index option. The Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography dialog
box opens.

Step 3: Edit and save the table of contents as described earlier in the chapter.

Updating a Table of Contents
Writer does not update the Table of Contents (TOC) automatically, so after any changes to the headings, you
must update it manually:
Step 1: Right-click anywhere in the table of contents.
Step 2: From the context menu, choose Update Index. Writer updates the table of contents to reflect the changes
in the document.
