Global Development Goals
United Nations Sustainable Development Summit (2015) has set global development goals, called Sustainable
Develpment Goals (SDGs). These goals are termed as Agenda 2030. These goals are:
Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere
Our dedication to end poverty would bring dramatic improvements in quality of life, environment, and
governance for everyone.
Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable
agriculture
Hunger can be eliminated easily if we create better opportunities for farmers and focus on the needs of
undernourished groups. Sustainability means using fewer natural resources to produce food and reducing food
waste and loss. Improved nutrition means reducing both hunger and obesity through improved quality of
foods.
Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
By promoting healthy life, we reduce the pressure on our natural resources. Telemedicine, precision medicine,
and other advances bring dramatic improvements in terms of effectiveness and cost.
Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities
for all
Technology can help us transform education, we must move beyond the ‘first study, then work’ theory to a
model based on lifelong learning. Content and quality should have emphasis on critical thinking, collaboration,
and flexibility.
Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
We will achieve sustainable development easily if awareness reaches all genders equally.
Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
We should tackle wastewater, and develop mechanisms to scale wastewater treatment solutions that can create
new reusable sources of water for industry and agriculture and free up lot more fresh water for us to use.
Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all
Evolution of distributed energy technology offers a new opportunity for solving the global issue of energy
access. This will allow energy systems to reach their goal of affordability and sustainability.
Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive
employment, and decent work for all
Build a stable and predictable business environment, which will fuel investment, create jobs, and enable the
production of higher value goods and services in an economy.
Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and
foster innovation
Through a resilient, trusted digital infrastructure, we can enable collaborative innovation processes focused on
eliminating waste of natural resources.
Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries
We need new policy frameworks that give economies a chance to drive growth that is inclusive and not limited
to small elites. This means promoting broad-based increases in living standards for all the people.
