Let’s Learn Types of Sentences
A set of words that makes a statement, command, question or exclamation is called a
sentence. It contains a subject and a predicate.
Sentences are of three types.
Simple Compound Complex

Simple Sentence
A simple sentence is one which has a subject and a predicate. For example:
They rested in the afternoon.

The moon shone bright.

Sheela went to the store alone.
O
The cow is eating the grass.
O
I hate loud music.
O
In the above sentences, all the highlighted words/phrases are subjects, and all the underlined
groups of words are predicates.
The part of the sentence that contains a subject and a predicate is called a clause.
A simple sentence has an independent clause.
Compound Sentence
A compound sentence is made up of two principal clauses joined by a coordinating
conjunction. For example:
