Homophones

                The pairs of words which sound alike, but have different spellings or meanings are called
                homophones.

                Read the following pairs of homophones.
                  1.  advice       :  My father gave me good advice.

                       advise      :  I advise you to take proper rest.

                  2.  allowed  :  They were allowed to enter the VIP gate.
                       aloud       :  The children spoke aloud.

                  3.  berth        :  The passenger has taken his berth in the train.

                       birth       :  He forgot my date of birth.
                  4.  brake        :  The motorist suddenly put his foot on the brake.

                       break       :  She will break my new vase while entering the house.

                  5.  blue         :  She has blue eyes.
                       blew        :  Strong winds blew and the clouds disappeared.

                  6.  deer         :  The lion killed a deer.

                       dear        :  My youngest brother is very dear to me.
                  7.  days         :  After a few days, she would go back to her hostel.

                       daze        :  After meeting the author, I was in daze for a week.

                  8.  dye          :  The barber dyed my hair grey.
                       die         :  Many people died in the earthquake.

                  9.  ear          :  She whispered something in his ear.

                       year        :  There are twelve months in a year.
                  10.  flour       :  Chapattis are made from flour.

                       flower      :  The plant has beautiful bright red flowers.

                  11.  gate        :  Open the gate now.
                       gait        :  She walked with a confident and rolling gait.

                  12.  heel        :  She rarely wears high heels.
