Let’s Learn Past Continuous Tense
The past continuous tense shows the continuous actions in the past.
The verbs was and were are used as helping verbs in the past continuous tense.
Read the following sentences.
She was dancing.

They were flying kites.
O
He was drawing a picture.
O
In the above sentences, the verbs was dancing, were flying and was drawing are
continuous actions in the past. The helping verbs was and were tell us the past time
and the -ing form of the main verbs tell us the continuity of the actions.
Formation of the Past Continuous Tense
We use the -ing form of the main verb after the helping verb (was or were).
subject + was or were + root form of the main verb + -ing + ...
