Comparative Degree
The comparative degree is used when we compare two people or things. We usually
use than after the comparative form of an adjective.
Read the following sentences.
Vikram is fatter than Mohit. Monika is cleverer than Ankita.

Superlative Degree
The superlative degree is used to compare more than two people (groups of people)
or things (groups of things). We use the before the superlative form of an adjective.
Read the following sentences.
Amar is the fattest of all the three boys.

Sonika is the cleverest of all these girls.

Formation of Comparative and Superlative Degrees
We usually add -er and -est to a positive degree to form comparative and superlative
degrees.
comparative degree → positive degree + er
superlative degree → positive degree + est
Positive Comparative Superlative
black blacker blackest
bold bolder boldest
bright brighter brightest
cold colder coldest
fast faster fastest
great greater greatest
long longer longest
small smaller smallest
strong stronger strongest
tall taller tallest
When adjectives end in -e:
comparative degree → positive + r
superlative degree → positive + st
