Demonstrative Pronouns
The word ‘demonstrate’ means ‘to show clearly’. A pronoun that points out the object
or objects to which it refers is called a demonstrative pronoun.
Look at the pictures and read.
This is That is
a bag. a monkey.
These are
puppies. Those are
mangoes.
In the above pictures, this, that, these and those are demonstrative pronouns because
they are used to demonstrate or point different objects.
This and these are used for an object or objects which are near us.

That and those are used for an object or objects which are far from us.

This and that are used to point out objects which are singular in number.

These and those are used to point out objects which are plural in number.
