Let’s Learn Simple Past Tense

The simple past tense is used to show an ac� on that took place in the past. We use the
past form of the verb in the simple past tense.

Read the following sentences.

Simple Present Tense Simple Past Tense

She goes to school. She went to school.
 
A doctor treats pa� ents. A doctor treated pa� ents.
 
They play football in the evening. They played football in the evening
 
In the above sentences, the verbs goes, treats and play are in the simple present

tense. The verbs went, treated and played are in the simple past tense.

We use some words or groups of words to show the � me in the past, in simple past

tense.
I met my friend a week ago.


She ate sweets last night.

He danced yesterday.

