          Let’s Learn Helping Verbs


        Sometimes, a verb is made up of more than one word.


        Read the following sentences.

            l   The girl is riding a bicycle.

            l   He was flying kites.

            l   I have read many stories.

        In the above sentences, is riding, was absent and have read are the verbs

        made up of more than one word.

           When a verb is made up of more than one word, it is called a verb phrase.


        The words am, is, are, was, were, has, have and had are helping verbs.


        Am, Is, Are

        We use is with singular nouns in the present tense.

        We use are with plural nouns in the present tense.


        We use am with I in present tense.
