Comma (,)
The comma is the shortest pause. It is used:
to separate three or more parts of speech that come together.

1. I bought a pen, a knife, a rubber, and an inkpot.
2. Hamida is obedient, intelligent, and hard working.
to separate words or phrases in apposition.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, fought for our
Independence.
To separate words of address.

2. Boys, don’t make a noise.
To separate a direct quotation from the rest of sentences.

Semicolon (;)
The semicolon represents a pause longer than that indicated by a comma. It is used
to separate the clauses of a compound sentence.
He is valiant; I honour him.
Question Mark (?)
It is used to mark direct questions.
1. What is your father?
2. How is he now?
