17 17 Story Writing

Story writing is one of the oldest forms of writing. A story entertains, informs and

educates us. A story is a unique way of sharing feelings and experience of other

people and different cultures.

You should write stories keeping in mind what is expected of you.

One Good Deed

Once upon a time, a lion was sleeping in the cool shade of a tree. It was a summer

afternoon, and the lion was snoring hard. A small mouse lived in a hole nearby.

It came out of its hole to play in the open.

Seeing the sleeping lion, the mouse jumped onto his body. Feeling disturbed, the

lion woke up angrily. He decided to catch the mouse in his paw and kill it. So, with

one stroke of his paw, the lion caught the tiny mouse and got ready to kill it.

But the mouse prayed to the lion, “Spare my life, O! King of the forest. I am one of your

humble subjects. I have disturbed your sleep. Have mercy on me. I may do some

good to you some day.”

The lion was amused to hear the
words of the mouse. He was moved

with pity, and he let him go with a

smile.

A few days later, the same lion

was caught in a hunter’s net. He

tried his best to be free but could

not do so. So he roared aloud in
