Addition

Putting things together to unite them is called addition.

The numbers we add are called addends and the answer we get is called the sum.
Addition is also represented by ‘+’ (plus) sign.

When we add 2-digit numbers, we first add the ones and then the tens.

Let us add 35 and 22. Tens Ones

Step 1: Add the ones. 3 5 Addend

5 ones + 2 ones = 7 ones + 2 2 Addend

Write 7 in the ones column. 5 7 Sum

Step 2: Add the tens.

3 tens + 2 tens = 5 tens
Write 5 in the tens column.

Find the sum.
