Word Problems
We all know that money is involved in day-to-day transactions, in banks, in market, etc.
Let us solve some real-life problems here.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Palak got her lunch from the canteen. She bought a sandwich for ` 15.75
and a juice can for ` 20.50. What was the total bill of the lunch?
Solution: Amount spent on sandwich = ` 15.75 1
Amount spent on juice = ` 20.50 ` 1 5 . 7 5
Total amount = ` 15.75 + ` 20.50 = ` 36.25 + ` 2 0 . 5 0
` 3 6 . 2 5
Thus, she spent ` 36.25 in total.
Example 2: Shubh had ` 10.75 but he needed ` 100 to buy a toy. How much more
money did he need? 0 9 9 · 9 10
Solution: The price of toy = ` 100.00 ` 1 0 0 · 0 0
Money that Shubh had = ` 10.75 – ` 1 0 · 7 5
` 8 9 · 2 5
Money that he required = ` 100 – ` 10.75 = ` 89.25
Thus, he required ` 89.25 more to buy the toy.

Cost of 8 toys = ` 135.75 × 8 ` 1 3 5 . 7 5
×
8
Thus, the total money spent by Rahul is ` 1086. ` 1 0 8 6 . 0 0
