Example 3: Leena bought 12 m cloth and used 3 m 65 cm of it for her dress. How much cloth
remains unused?
Solution: Total cloth = 12 m m cm
Cloth used for dress = 3 m 65 cm 1 2 0 0
Length of remaining unused cloth piece = 12 m – 3 m 65 cm – 3 6 5
= 8 m 35 cm 8 3 5
Example 4: Monika walks 3 km 750 m every day. How much distance does she cover in
a week? km m
Solution: Distance covered in 1 day = 3 km 750 m 5 3
Distance covered in 7 days = 3 km 750 m × 7 × 3 7 5 0
7
= 26 km 250 m 2 6 2 5 0
Example 5: Sumit bought 14 bags of rice weighing 17 kg 150 g. If all the bags weigh equally,
what is the weight of each bag?
Solution: Weight of 14 bags of rice = 17 kg 150 g = 17150 g
Weight of each bag = 17150 g ÷ 14
1225

Example 6: A bath tub can hold 70 L of water in it. It has 24 L 650 mL of water in it. How much
more water can be poured into it?
Solution: Capacity of bath tub = 70 L
Quantity of water already in it = 24 L 650 mL
Quantity of water that can be poured more = 70 L – 24 L 650 mL
L mL

4 5 3 5 0
Hence, 45 L 350 mL of more water can be poured.
