Per cent
We can also represent these fractions by ‘per cent’. Per cent or percentage is a way of expressing
a number as a fraction with denominator 100.
The term ‘per cent’ comes from two Latin words ‘per centum’ which means ‘out of 100’. The
symbol of ‘per cent’ is ‘%’.
Percentage is used in day-to-day life as it makes easier to compare the numbers.
For example, marks in any subject, discounts, sales, etc.
Converting a Percentage into Fraction
To convert a certain per cent into a fraction, we remove the % symbol and divide the number
