Symmetry in Geometrical Shapes
Some figures have more than one line of symmetry.
Fact-o-meter
Non-symmetrical are also
known as asymmetrical
objects.
2 lines of symmetry Infinite lines of symmetry 4 lines of symmetry
Symmetry in Letters
Some letters also show symmetry. Challenge
For example,
I m a shape with perfect balance,
reflective beauty is my talent,
fold me in half, and what do you
see?
Two halves alike, in perfect way.
What am I?
Mirror Image
When a mirror is placed on the line of symmetry of a symmetrical figure, an image of one-half
is formed. This image will fall completely on the other half of the figure. This image is called
a mirror image or reflection. We can also say that the two halves of a symmetrical figure are
mirror image of each other.
Look at the figures given below. The dotted line is the line of the mirror.
Tessellations
Tiling, also known as tessellation, is the process of covering a flat surface with non-overlapping
shapes that have no gaps between them.
Observe the pictures given below.
