Division 95

        Division

Division means “Equal Sharing or Equal Grouping”.

        Equal Sharing

On her birthday, Jyoti wants to distribute
8 chocolates to her 4 friends.

She gave one chocolate to each of them. She
is still left with 4 chocolates.

She again gave one chocolate to each of
them. Now, she has no chocolates left.

This means, 8 chocolates have been distributed equally among 4 friends
giving 2 chocolates to each one.

So, we can say that 8 divided among 4 equals to 2.

        We can write this as 8 ÷ 4 = 2

‘÷’ is the sign for division.

        Equal Grouping

Aruna has 10 apples and she wants to keep 2 apples in each plate. How

        many plates would she need?

If she keeps 2 apples on each plate, 5 plates are needed.

This means, to find the number of plates, we divide 10 by 2.

        We can write this as 10 ÷ 2 = 5

             Fact-o-meter

In equal sharing, we have to find out how many will each get.
