DECISION-MAKING PROCESS
Decision-making is a crucial part of intelligence. In general, decision-making refers to the process of choosing
between two or more courses of action. In the broader sense, decision-making involves choosing between
possible solutions to a problem. Let us understand with the help of a simple example.
How Do You Make Decisions?
As you know, decision-making is an important part of intelligence and it is based on various factors such as
availability of information, past experience, intuition, knowledge and self-awareness. In your daily life, you have
seen that you cannot make good decisions without adequate information or knowledge because any major
decision requires a certain amount of information that you may need to locate.
You must remember that gathering information is part of your decision-making process
on important matters. Let us understand the detailed concept of decision-making with
the help of a scenario given below:
Scenario: You are playing the Tic Toe game with your friend, and it is your turn to put
a circle now. The game is so simple, but the current situation is going to make you think
harder. Either you try to complete your own turn or stop the friend from completing his/
her turn in the next move. The strategy should be clear in your mind as the game could
be over with one wrong move at this stage.

Suppose you have to submit a computer project tomorrow in your school but you haven’t even started
it yet. Now, you can plan on spending several hours doing it tonight when you get home after practice
when your friend suddenly asks you to go to a concert tonight. They won tickets to your favorite group
and want you to go with them. You need to get the project done because you have a D average in Science
right now but you really want to go to the concert with your friend. In such a case, what would you do?

How Do Machines Become Intelligent?
As you know, human beings are able to become more and more intelligent with time because they gain a lot
of experience during the growing phase. You have seen that a three-month-old baby is not able to sit properly.
He/She takes help from others while learning how to sit and once he/she knows it, he/she keeps on upgrading it
by learning how to eat, stand , walk etc. In the same way, scientists or engineers train machines with adequate
