16 16 Comprehension
Comprehension is the ability to read a text, process it, and understand
its meaning. It is based on two abilities: word reading and language
comprehension.
The learner should develop a reading habit in order to be able to answer
questions based on comprehension. Reading a piece of text improves your
comprehension skills.
A. Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow.
Once upon a time, a crow was very thirsty. It flew from place to place in search of
water. But it could not find even a drop of it. All of a sudden, it caught sight of a
pitcher on the ground. The crow was overjoyed. It flew down and sat on its edge.
But, to its disappointment, the level of the water in the pitcher was very low. It
tried its best to drink the water, but all its efforts were in vain.
Suddenly, an idea came to its mind. There were some pebbles lying on the
ground. It picked them up one by one and dropped them into the pitcher. The
level of the water rose up. It was delighted. It quenched its thirst and flew away.
