To show that a verb which ends in –y, is in the present tense, we either use
the verb as it is or usually drop the final –y and add –ies to the verb.
I cry. You cry. He/She cries.
I try. You try. They cry
Simple Past Tense
To form the past tense of a verb, we usually add -ed to the verb.
call + -ed = called walk + -ed = walked
show + -ed = showed talk + -ed = talked
The last letters of some verbs are doubled when -ed is added to them.
knit + -ed = knitted fan + -ed = fanned
drop + -ed = dropped sob + -ed = sobbed
1. I played cricket. 2. They sang a song.
3. He walked on foot. 4. You wanted a good book.
