             1. My uncle __________ in Agra. (live/lives)
             2. I __________ in the evening. (plays/play)

             3. The birds __________ in the trees. (chirps/chirp)
             4. They __________ in the park yesterday. (play/played)

             5. Her friend __________ to meet me on Monday. (came/come)

A verb tells us that somebody or something has done an activity/action.

In other words, a verb not only tells us about an action, but tells us about
the time of the action. Is it something that happens now or is it something

that has already happened in the past?

                1. Shyam plays cricket.

                2. Shyam played cricket yesterday.

In the first sentence, the verb plays refers to an action now or at present.

In the second sentence, the verb played refers to an action that happened
          yesterday or in the past.

The forms of the verb play — plays and played — have been used to show

          different times: present and past.

          Simple Present Tense

To show that a verb is in the simple present tense, we either use the verb as

it is, or add an -s or -es to it.
