VI. Read the following passage carefully.

                                          EMAIL
                                          EMAIL SECURITY SECURITY
            (1) Within a single data breach in 2019, an estimated 2 billion unique email addresses
and over 21 million unique passwords were revealed. Barely two decades ago, it was a
dream to access emails without the restriction of the ISPs (Internet Service Provider).
The ISP based email services ruled business communication. The problem was that
one needed to stick to a specific system, connected to the Internet from a specific
ISP, to get emails. Changing the ISP meant that your email account would also go
along with it. Sticking to a specific computer for getting the emails was a compulsion
at that time and everyone wanted a solution to this.

            (2) Finding an opportunity in this impediment, two young software experts Sabeer Bhatia
and Jack Smith invented the Hotmail service. It was the world’s first web-based email
service. Hotmail was fast, secure, and light. It could be accessed from anywhere in
the world on a device connected to the Internet.

            (3) Hotmail has since then revolutionized the way email communication is done. All other
email services have conveniently followed suit and made trouble-free communication
possible. Even big software giants like Microsoft Corporation and Yahoo Inc. saw the
potential in this web mail service. Everyone wanted to have a bite of this pie. Some
developed their own web mail and others just acquired the current ones. Web mail
was seen as such a big development that Microsoft took over Hotmail at a whopping
$400 million. Since then, it has gone through significant improvements. It has been
made more secure, light, and convenient.
            (4) However, despite its speed, convenience, and security features, email accounts are
frequently hacked, stalked, and leaked. Online phishing and spying through emails have
also been a very big problem for email users. These activities have seen a steep rise in
the past one decade. Emails contain confidential and proprietary information and hence,
it is important to keep the account safe and secure.
            (5) These days, email accounts have a two-factor authentication process and you can also
beef up the security by providing the correct information about your mobile number
and secondary email addresses. In case of any suspicious activity, you will be alerted
                 immediately.
            (6) To ensure better protection of your account, you must never share your email password
with anyone. They must always be kept confidential. Users also take the strength of
                                                                                               47
