Read these sentences carefully.

                 •  I accept that I was wrong.

            The highlighted group of words is a noun clause. It answers the question: accept what? It acts
            as the object of the verb accept.
                 •  The secrets that he divulged shocked all of us.

            The highlighted group of words is an adjective clause. It describes the noun secrets.
                 •  It was so hot that the plant died.

            The highlighted group of words is an adverb clause showing the result of hot.

            In  all  these  sentences,  the  highlighted  clauses  are  introduced  by  the  word  that.  However,  in
            the first sentence, the clause functions as a noun clause, in the second sentence, it functions
            as an adjective clause, and in the third sentence, it functions as an adverb clause.

            I.   Underline the noun clauses in these sentences.
                 1.  We heard that the girl was not working.

                 2.  I do not know why the TV was not working.
                 3.  We asked if we could get the discount on goods.

                 4.  She replied that she would wait for us.

                 5.  I wondered if I was living in a dream world.
                 6.  Do you know where I could get jewellery.

                 7.  It is thought that Mr Sharma is a great teacher.
                 8.  He promised that he would attend the function.

            II.  Complete the following sentences by adding adjective clauses.

                 1.  This is the man who stole my watch.
                 2.  New Delhi, which is the capital of India, is the most beautiful city.

                 3.  People who hurt others never prosper.
                 4.  This is the place where I was born.

                 5.  Junk food, which most people love, is not healthy.
                 6.  God helps those who help themselves.
