• Positive self-talk or reframing: Most of us have a bias towards negative self-talk. We can hear
a little voice inside our head saying things like, ‘You’ve messed up again!’, ‘You’re stupid’, ‘You
can’t do anything right’. Ignore this voice and try being good to yourself instead. Say things like,
‘It’s okay to make mistakes’, ‘You can do better next time’, and ‘You are capable of doing great
things’.
• Calling upon your best self: When you find yourself feeling like you want revenge or you want
to hurt someone, ask yourself, ‘What would my best self do?’ But before you ask this question, try
and determine your own best qualities. These make up your best self, such as loyal, compassionate,
hardworking, generous, loving, and so on.
“It is wise to direct your anger towards problems, not people;
to focus your energies on answers, not excuses”
