• Repeated strong reactions by angry people can make people around them uncomfortable:
If a person frequently explodes with anger or shows rage around others, others will feel
uncomfortable being around this person. They will feel worried about the next rage episode
and what might bring it on.
• It’s difficult to be honest with habitually angry people: If a person seems to have poor self-
regulation issues, it is unlikely that someone will sit them down and tell them that they need to
be better at self-regulation.

A FEW TOOLS & TECHNIQUES
If, like Sarthak, you find it difficult to control emotions like anger, sadness, anxiety, etc then
these emotional regulation skills can benefit you:
• Mindfulness: It means being aware of your present, including your emotions. If you understand
your anger, you are less likely to express it in an unreasonable manner.
• Attention-shifting strategies: When you feel anger or another strong emotion like jealousy
coming on, divert your mind to doing something else. For example, praying, reading, watching
something, or talking to someone and so on.
• Forward-looking strategies: Avoid the situations and people which usually make you lose control
over your emotions. If avoiding is not possible, use another strategy mentioned in this list.
