Devices that are carried in a pocket or bag, such as a smartphone or a Personal Data

Assistant (PDA) are not called wearable computers as they are not worn on a body part.

          Embedded Computers

An Embedded computer is a computer chip fixed inside a machine or device. It is a
combination of hardware and software that is designed to perform a highly specific

function. For example, an embedded computer inside a geyser will switch ON the
geyser at a specific time, set the temperature of water depending on the weather,
switch OFF the geyser when the water has heated, and display a message that it is

          ready for use.

The main characteristics of embedded computers are:

               • They are very small in size.

               • They use very little electricity.

               • They are highly efficient.

               • They are not expensive as complex hardware is not needed.

Real-life examples of embedded computers are found inside automated cars, ATMs,
sensor-based lighting systems, game controllers, fitness trackers, smart home locking
systems, and modern traffic light systems.

Most applications of Artificial Intelligence involve use of devices with embedded

computers or wearable computers that can gather data continuously and learn as the
               devices are used.
