Facebook
Facebook is one of the most popular social
networking site and service that allows users to
post comments, share photographs and links to
news or other interesting content on the web,
play games, chat live, and even stream live video.
Mark Zuckerberg, a student of Harvard University,
US founded Facebook, in 2004 for the students of
Harvard University only. Later, it was extended to
other universities and then to the general public.
X (formerly Twitter)
X, formerly called Twitter, is a free social networking
and micro-blogging service, created by Jack Dorsey
in 2006. It allows users to stay in contact with each
other and know what is going on right now.
You can register to a X account with your existing
email account. Once you have registered, you can
communicate with your friends or followers by
sending short messages called tweets. Each tweet
is limited to 280 characters and may contain
photos, videos, and links.
Instagram
Instagram logo is a photo and video sharing social
networking service owned by American company
Meta Platforms. Originally launched for iOS in October
2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, Instagram
rapidly gained popularity, with one million registered
users in two months. The app allows users to upload
media that can be edited with filters and organised
by hashtags and geographical tagging. Posts can be
shared publicly or with preapproved followers. Users
can browse other users’ content by tag and location,
view trending content, like photos, and follow other
users to add their content to a personal feed.
Pinterest
Pinterest is an image sharing and social media service
designed to enable saving and discovery of information
(specifically ‘ideas’) on the internet using images, and on
a smaller scale, animated GIFs and videos, in the form of
pinboards. The site was created by Ben Silbermann, Paul
Sciarra, and Evan Sharp, and had 433 million global monthly
active users as of July 2022. It is operated by Pinterest, Inc.,
based in San Francisco.
