            Sometimes, when can be used instead of if.

        Complete the following conditional Type 1 sentences with the correct form of verbs given in
        brackets.

              1.  If I work hard, I _______________ more. (earn)
              2.  If they don’t come soon, I _______________ for office. (leave)
              3.  If I get a loan, I _______________ the car I wanted. (buy)
              4.  If you scatter the toys, you _______________ them up yourself. (pick)

              5.  If I am hungry, I _______________ something to eat. (get)

        Conditional Type 2 is used when there is very little or no possibility of a condition being
        fulfilled. It talks of unreal and imaginary situations.


             If + Simple Past (conditional clause) + Would + Base form of a verb (main clause)


        For example:
               If I were a king, I would live in a castle.
            O
               If I owned a gold mine, I would cover my roof with gold.
            O
               If I were rich, I would buy a private jet.
            O
            Generally, were is used instead of was in the if clause of the conditional type 2.

        Conditional Type 3 is used to refer to past situations. It expresses an imaginary or supposed
        result of an event that has already taken place.                                                          Clauses


             If + Past Perfect (conditional clause) + Would Have + Past Participle (main clause)

        For example:

               If you had worked harder, you would have passed your exam.

               If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation.
            O
               If I had known you were coming, I would have prepared a delicious meal.
            O
