Listening & Speaking Time
The teacher will conduct a pair activity for oral practice of various forms of narration.
He/She will write on the blackboard/smart board four situations of narration indicated
by its key terms: Tense, Pronoun, Time and Space. The teacher will give one of these Direct and Indirect Speech
key themes to the students. He/She will ask one student to speak out a sentence of
direct speech. He/She, then, will ask the second student to speak out a corresponding
sentence in indirect speech, he/she will also point out that the narrative piece of direct
speech is shown within inverted commas in writing.
For example: The cue assigned Tense
First student: I say, ``You are going to be the monitor of the class.''’’
I said, ``You are going to be the monitor of the class.’’''
I shall say, ``You are going to be the monitor of the class.''’’
Second student: I say that you are going to be the monitor of the class.
I said that you were going to be the monitor of the class.
I shall say that you are going to be the monitor of the class.
