Proper Nouns
Proper nouns are specific names of particular people, places, animals or things. These
include Richa, Anand, New Delhi, Rockey, Tommy, St Thomas School, etc. They always
start with a capital letter, no matter which part of the sentence they are in.
Proper nouns have no plural forms.
Common Nouns
Common nouns are names given in common to people, places, animals or things. These
include girl, boy, student, city, town, dog, parrot, chair, month, festival, etc.
Common nouns are countable nouns which have plural forms.
Material Nouns
Material nouns are names of substances or ingredients used for making things. These
include gold, silver, salt, milk, oil, plastic, etc.
Material nouns are uncountable nouns which have no plural forms.
Collective Nouns
Collective nouns are names of groups of people, animals or things. These include crowd (of
people), team (of players), herd (of cattle), bunch (of grapes), flock (of sheep), etc.
