Notice Writing
A notice is a very short piece of writing which is usually formal in style. It is widely used by
individuals and organisations to announce events and celebrations, meetings and activities,
invitations and declarations, etc. Notices are pinned up or pasted on special boards meant
for specific purposes.
A notice should give complete information and must be written in a clear, crisp and easily-
to-understand language.
An effective notice must include the following.
Name of the organisation/institution issuing the notice.

The heading NOTICE to make it very clear.
l
Date of issue.
l
An eye-catching caption or an appropriate heading to grab the attention of the readers.
l
The purpose for which the notice has been written. For example: calling a meeting,

informing the students about an event at school, etc.
Details of the schedule such as date, time, venue, programme, fees, and duration.
l
The name and designation of the person issuing the notice, so that the reader can
l
contact him/her if he/she wants to seek more information.
