The continuous tense shows an action that is done in continuation. It may be in the present, past
or future.
Present Continuous Tense
The present continuous tense tells us something about an action that is taking place in the present.
Uses of Present Continuous Tense
The present continuous tense is used to indicate:
an action that is happening at the time of speaking.
l The sun is shining.
an action that may not be taking place at the time of speaking, but is an ongoing process in
the present.
l I am studying in class 6.
an action that is going to take place in the near future.
l They are travelling to Rome next Friday.
Formation of Present Continuous Tense
To form the present continuous tense, we use the helping verb is, am or are with the -ing form of
the main verb.
l I am going to the market.
l They are playing with the ball.
