Collective Nouns

Study the following sentences carefully.
1. Indian cricket team won the match.

2. Our class has twenty-five students.

Team is the name for a group of players.
Class is the name for a group of students.

A collective noun is the name given to a collection of people, animals or objects, etc.

Remember

Each collective noun has its plural form.

Material Nouns

Study the following sentences carefully.

2. Clay is used to make pots.

Wood is the material used to make furniture.
Clay is the material used to make pots.

Such materials are used to make different objects. So they are called material nouns.

Remember

A material noun has no plural form.
