8.  elder, older

                  Elder is used for members of the same family while older for those of different families and
                  things.
                  (a)  My elder brother is a doctor.
                  (b)  He is older than me by two years.

              9.  swim, float

                  Swim is used for living things but float for non-living things.
                  (a)  Can you swim across the canal?
                  (b)  Wood floats on water but iron does not.


          The Same Word Used Differenty

          There are many words which can be used as different parts of speech. Read the given examples
          carefully.
              1.  Above

                  Preposition  :  The birds flew up above the trees.
                  Noun           :  Some water fell on my head from above.

                  Adjective      :  Look at the above questions once again.
                  Adverb         :  Just look above. You will see the areoplane.

              2.  After
                  Preposition  :  The lion ran after the deer.
                  Conjunction  :  I ate my lunch after I had taken the bath.

                  Adjective      :  He left his country in after years
                  Adverb         :  What are you running after?

              3.  All
                  Determiner  :  All living beings need food and water.

                  Noun           :  Hari lost his all in drinking and gambling.
                  Adverb         :  Everything is all very fine.

              4.  Book
                  Noun           :  This book contains an interesting biography.

                  Verb           :  Please book two tickets for me.
              5.  Close

                  Verb           :  Close the door, please.
                  Noun           :  The meeting came to a close at 6 p.m
                  Adjective      :  Raghav is a close friend of mine.

                  Adverb         :  Move close to me, please.
