Circle the transitive verbs and underline the intransitive verbs.

              2. The police have caught the thief.

              3. We should walk every day.

              4. My sister is cleaning the room.

              6. I am in class 5.

A transitive verb has two voices: active voice and passive voice.

The voice shows whether the subject of the verb acts or is acted upon.

          Read the following sentences.

            1. The hunter killed a tiger.

            2. A tiger was killed by the hunter.

The two sentences (above) have the same
              O
                  meaning.
But, in sentence 1, the subject (the hunter)

did something. The subject is ‘active’. The verb
(killed) shows the action done by the hunter.

The verb (killed) is said to be in the active voice.
              O
In sentence 2, the form of the verb (was killed) shows that something was done.

The verb (was killed) is said to be in the
              O
                  passive voice.
