A. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.

A farmer had a large farm with a deep lake in it. He had many ducks and ducklings

and many hens and chicks. The ducklings swam in the lake. The chicks lived in

a coop. One chick wanted to swim like the ducklings, but his mother told him,
“Chicks can’t swim. You will drown.” One day, without telling mother hen, the

chick ran behind the ducklings. The ducklings jumped into the lake and swam.

The chick also jumped into the lake, but he drowned and died.
